About Peniche
Over the last ten years at Trotters, Chef Anthony Goncalves
has gained a reputation for treating his patrons to an
inimitable blend of prime ingredients, exciting flavors,
conscientious service, and authenticity. His latest venture
is a Spanish and Portuguese tapas restaurant, Peniche.
Offering authentic tapas in a unique setting, Peniche
represents a fearless charge in an unprecedented direction
for the Westchester restaurant scene.
Peniche is a seaside municipality on the central coast of Portugal. Goncalves recalls summer nights there
sampling some of the freshest andmost enticing fare land and sea can offer. Restaurants would set up grills and
displays of tapas on the sidewalks, as passersby roamed and tasted atwill. The spirited atmosphere of this harbor
town has inspired Chef Anthony to create an experience evocative of this spectacular location and
incredible culinary feel.
Goncalves’ dining areas at the new Peniche are distinctive and stunning. Upon entering themain dining room, one
immediately faces a display cabinet of distinctive foodstuffs from Spain and Portugal. As you round this cabinet,
a roomof cocktail height tables and grand lighting appears, set against a dynamic backdrop: the open kitchen. This
kitchen is literally and figuratively the centerpiece of Peniches’ design, an animated and intriguing venue of culinary
creation.
On the far side of the kitchen is a private dining room with a cream colored tin ceiling, and seating for
seventy at large planked communal tables.
The view of the bar is dominated by an immense slab of Calcutta Gold marble. The room itself has soaring
ceilings with exposed mechanicals and rough-cut walnut shelves flanking twenty-four wines by the glass in a
stainless steel cuvinee. With an espresso machine behind the bar, and 9 beers on tap, the bartenders at Peniche
offer a beverage for every palate, even those without an affinity for the house’s signature sangria.
Down concrete lined steps in the bar area you might find “Underground”, a private lounge available for cocktail
parties of 30-120 fortunate guests. With its low seating and worldly décor, Pata Negra is deserving of the
esoteric connotation granted by sharing its’moniker with the world’s best jamon.
Together, these spaces create an unparalleled setting for the most exciting and delectable fare this side of the
Atlantic. The animated atmosphere, service, and cuisine come together to create an extraordinary environment
certain to draw guests in, and arouse in themwhat itmeans to eat in Peniche.
